METHODOLOGY OF OPERATION OF VACUUM UNITS

WHY IS VACUUM MINING / CLEANING IDEAL FOR MINING TODAY AND IN THE FUTURE?

Materials (minerals) – spillages will be sucked into the nozzle by the airflow at the opening in the nozzle and travels along the vacuum suction column to the collector bin. The material will then enter the collector bin and will be tipped at any dedicated area nominated by the client and this area can be up to 80m – 120m from the area vacuumed depending on the material/mineral that is vacuumed.

OUR EQUIPMENT CAN BE 525 VOLTS OR 380 VOLTS ELECTRICAL DRIVEN MOTORS.

Our Vacuum units are water ring units meaning that we make use of water in a water tank that feeds the water into the barrel that has an impeller inside and as it turns the water is thrown in one direction and as it turns it creates vacuum suction that is connected to our pipe column and this suction runs through the collector box right to the front at the vacuum nozzle. Materials (minerals) – spillages will then be sucked into the nozzle by the airflow (vacuum) at the opening in the nozzle and travels along the pipes column to the collector bin. The material will then enter the collector bin and strike a stop plate inside the bin and the material falls in the bin. The bin operates on a timer that is set for the time that it takes to fill up the collector box, once the box is full the timer opens a valve to cut the vacuum suction and the material falls out of the box using gravity. The material will be tipped at any dedicated area nominated by the client and this area can be up to 20m – 180m away from the area vacuumed depending on the material that is vacuumed. Our vacuums do not have filter bags as they work on a cyclone system and run less than 85 decibels

Vacuum units can be equipped to be rail-bound with buffers so that you can haul them, or you can equip the vacuum units with sleets then you can pull them where you need them.

The 6-inch unit forms the backbone of our product line. The unit has proven itself in gold; platinum and chrome mines in South Africa. The unit is very robust and requires very little maintenance. The unit is ideally suited for cleaning cross cuts and haulages; dam cleaning; conveyor belts cleaning; vamping and sweeping and cleaning of panels.

The 8-inch vacuum machine is currently the biggest machine installed in South African mines.

The machine offers high efficiency and requires low maintenance. The unit has successfully recovered 30 tons of rock per shift in high carbonation panels by dumping them straight into hoppers. The unit is ideally suited for cleaning shaft bottoms and areas where a high vertical lift is required.

We are committed to innovative products, exceptional client service, and a commitment to our products.

We as V Tech and our OEM use the latest 3D-CA D, CFD, FEA, and other simulation technologies to ensure that our products not only work but are also efficient, lightweight, and reliable from the word go.

We constantly monitor all products to see where we can improve and develop them further.

We as V Tech can also render cleaning services whereby, we supply the equipment and labor and do the work and charge and/ton or rand/m2 or a flat rate for a project

Slurry Pumping & Dewatering

SLURRY PUMPING

V TECH making use of slurry pumps, the type of pump is designed for pumping liquid containing solid particles. Slurry pumps change in design and construction to adjust to multiple types of slurry which varies in concentration of solids, size of solid particles, shape of solid particles, and composition of solution.

  • Oil sumps. Clearwater dams. Ash sumps and dams. Leach and CIP / CLP tanks.
  • Cleaning of dense slurries. Cooling towers – de-silting. Process water sumps and dams.
  • Coal slurry in sumps, trenches, and dams. Surface dams, sumps, sill traps, and drains.
  • Our pumping applications is for Surface and Underground workings
  • If settler dams are kept clean the water, you use is mud-free, or less mud in the water system – less dust pollution in workplaces.
  • Less mud or no mud in dams – no problems with water capacity in dams less mud or no mud in water system – less wear and tear on pumps and equipment
  • Cleaning water dams and settlers reduce the risk of overflowing of these dams and settlers and puts a risk to the environment in general if your systems are clean – good housekeeping = a safe and productive workplace and satisfied employees.
  • Pump 65% Solids
  • Pump up to 40mm particle size
  • Can pump up to 90oC Pumping Temp
  • Pump Slurry 2.8 S.G.
  • The pump is dry Running.
  • The pump has an Integral Agitator
  • 300m Pumping Distance

  • High Solids Removal

  • Set-up time is fast.

  • Electrical motors from 380 volt to 550 volt

  • Get the pump in 30KW and 90KW and 112KW

Our slurry pump Inducer sends out a hydraulic shock wave (known as a sphere of influence) down below the pump. These shock waves make any settled solids within a 1-meter radius start to flow so that they can be pumped.

The slurry pump Inducer is kept close to the lower bearing so that the bending moment on the shaft is reduced when it comes into contact with large particles.

Because the Inducer is fitted close to the inlet, it also prevents oversize particles from entering the pump.

HYDRO CYCLONE SOLUTIONS

We at V TECH are making use of a unique cleaning system for cleaning slurries from dams, sumps, settlers, and water pumping systems (reticulation), and with this system, we can separate the water and mud. With this solution, you can tip the dewater mud into bags, hoppers, ore pass systems, and conveyor belt systems.

The objective of this system is to separate the solids that are contained in the fluids from the liquid. At the end of the day, this specialized cleaning system adds value to our clients where we make a positive difference in Recovery secondly clean dams give the client water capacity and less wear and tear on equipment. This system can be installed as a permanent installation that does continuous cleaning.

The scope of work is to clean dams and settlers that are full of mud and the cleaning process needs to be safe, fast, effective and lastly, efficient.

A slurry pump gets installed into the dam or settler that needs to be cleaned, from the pump installation a pump column is installed up to the point where the Hydro cyclone is installed (that can be at the conveyor belt, or an ore pass system) then the column gets connected. A second overflow column is then installed from the cyclone to the point where the overflow water will be discharged.

In most cases we make use of pressure water to wash and break up the mud, mud is then pumped by a slurry pump and the slurry then goes through the hydro cyclone where the water and mud get separated, and the mud is delivered onto the conveyor belt or down the ore pass system. The overflow water gets delivered back into the dam or pump sump drainage system.

Hydro clones are used for desilting, dewatering, and sizing a variety of products, including sand, construction aggregates, and industrial minerals.

Containing no moving parts, these machines are relatively straightforward.

A hydro cyclone, or more commonly referred to as a cyclone, is simply a configured pipe tee.

It requires certain elements in its design to perform a separation of material based on size gradation, but a hydro cyclone is straightforward

The head and volume that needs to be pumped will determine the pump size as well as the flow rate of the cyclone

Fines will always follow the water and the underflow of a hydro cyclone or separator will always contain some water, there will be a small amount of fines.

The amount of bypass fines will be reduced by utilizing the hydro cyclone, this is accomplished by adjusting the spigot size.

A too small of a spigot will cause roping in the hydro cyclone and decrease separation efficiency, while too large a spigot will increase the bypass.

VENTILATION SECTION

VENTILATION SECTION - PRODUCTS

Underground mine ventilation needs to provide a flow of air to the underground workings of a mine of sufficient volume to regulate temperature. Our products are there to direct the ventilation flow to the correct working areas and our cooling systems, assist in cooling the temperature of the ventilation.

In 1988 our OEM developed a new type of ventilation door made of rubber with a self-closing hinge construction.

The idea worked perfectly for underground conditions. Due to the increased price of raw materials and availability of rubber products the appliance of the above became less and less. Therefore, our OEM started with new concepts to be used in the   mines namely:

Centre Gulley Brattices were made of the belting which is still in use in the mining industries.

In the early nineties, we started testing various products to be used as dust suppressants underground and for compaction roads on surfaces at various locations. The product is called Zenatex HE 2000, and up to date, various mines are still using the product.

In 1993 our OEM developed a product called VB20 Vent Wrap Sealer, to be applied to ventilation pipes to seal leaks on the flange side of each pipe. All the CSIR tests on this product have been done to ensure that it conforms to the mine ventilation standards. (Self-extinguishing, low toxicity, memory, and self-adhesive).

This product is currently used on various Gold and Platinum mines.

In 1995 our OEM went to the USA to look at a product that could be beneficial for underground cooling in the stopes and haulages. They had a unit made up in the USA which was flown out to South Africa for a CSIR test underground at Anglo Gold mine. Since the rand-dollar fluctuation became too big, we found a suitable manufacturer in Boksburg South Africa.

We then re-designed the Cooling unit to such an extent that we are now able to manufacture a better-quality product as in the USA, as well as a product that can withstand pressures of 17MPa and more. All the different size coils were manufactured (100Kw – 200Kw – 300Kw – 500Kw) and tested at the CSIR for quality and performance.

The team have recently designed and developed a product to be used on refrigeration cooling pipes for insulation on the surface and underground. The product is called ISO – Thermal Lagging. This product took 2 years to develop and was also tested at the CSIR and SABS and conforms to the mine standards. We used the same manufacturers that manufactured the VB20 Vent Wrap Sealer for us because they have the modernized and efficient equipment to manufacture the above products.

  • Brattices – VB 20 vent wrap
  • Bulkcoolers(200kw,300kw, 500kw) – Inline spot coolers(60kw, 100kw)
  • Cooling cars heat exchangers – Refurbishment of equipment

Ventilation Brattices are to be installed to act as a curtain to secure and direct ventilation to the workplaces.

Primary Purpose: To seal Ventilation, Pipe & Flanges underground as well as Air column leaks underground.

VB 20 is a durable and strong product and only needs to be wrapped two to three times around the pipe to provide a proper seal.

Bulk air heat exchangers in underground operations are used either to cool air when maximum legal return temperatures from the working areas (reject temperatures) are reached or to cool water from underground refrigeration plants (heat rejection).

This inline cooler gets installed in – stope at working places to cool down the hot ventilation.
